Help
If during user registration or if you have questions regarding how the system works, you can access the “Help” button, located in the upper left-hand side of the registration application in the On-line Catalog.
Launching a simple search
Tap the “Simple Search” menu. Type in the desired keyword or phrase and tap the “Search” button.
The system will perform the search and display the results.
Simple search allows you to search the library catalog using keywords or phrases. When performing the search and returning data, the system will take into account the relevance of the content, the correctness of the data entry, available synonyms, related words, and thesaurus hierarchies.
autosuggestion
The Online Catalog helps you complete your keywords by displaying suggestions. When you start typing a word, the system searches the database and displays available terms.
Selecting a word from the list can be done by navigating with the keyboard, using the Up and Down arrows.
When you reach the desired word, press the Enter button.
Selecting a word from the list can also be done using the mouse.
Launch advanced search
The system offers the possibility to build searches by data types through the “Advanced Search” menu.
You can also access this option by pressing the “Switch to Advanced Search” button on the simple search page.
Select the search criterion from the list, enter the desired term and press the “Search” button.
Building advanced searches using the "And", "Or", "And not" operators
And – Using the “And” operator, the user can reduce the set of results returned from the database by combining multiple search criteria.
Ex.: A search with the terms History AND Ancient will return only records where both search criteria are present.
Or – Unlike the “And” operator, which reduces the number of records returned, the “Or” operator expands the number of records returned. This operator is useful if you want to use terms that have the same meaning but different spellings.
Ex.: A search for an author Eminescu Mihai or Eminovici Mihai, since both forms refer to the same author.
And not – The “And not” operator helps you reduce the number of records returned.
Ex.: Let’s say we want to get information about Notre Dame University. By searching for Notre Dame AND NOT Cathedral or Notre Dame AND NOT Victor Hugo, we will eliminate records that do not refer to the term Notre Dame University.
Searching in external sources (databases compatible with our IT system)
In the “Advanced Search” menu, the system offers the possibility to search in external sources. On the left side is the bar with the available external sources.
The external source can be selected by checking it. Fill in the desired criteria and terms, then press the “Search” button.
Selecting all records on the page
The details of a recording can be viewed by accessing the recording title.
To benefit from the search submenu, you must check the box next to the current number.
Printing records
If you want to print the details of a record found in our database and you have a printer connected to your computer, you must select at least one record. If you do not have any records selected, the system will generate a warning message.
After selecting the records, access the corresponding print icon.
