On April 5, 2006, the American Corner Craiova was inaugurated, representing a partnership between the United States Embassy in Bucharest and the Alexandru and Aristia Aman County Library, with the support of the Dolj County Council.
The American Corners program promotes dialogue and cooperation between the United States and Romania, providing information about the United States on a variety of topics that contribute to the development of the Romania-U.S. Strategic Partnership. American Corners are hosted by public libraries, universities, and local teacher training centers in major cities in Romania – Bacău, Baia Mare, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași, Sibiu, Timișoara, and Târgu-Mureș. They provide free access to collections of American materials, the eLibraryUSA database collection, the Internet and computers, and programs in support of United States foreign policy.
In addition to access to accurate and up-to-date information about the United States through print and electronic resources, American Corners organizes interactive cultural, educational, and English language learning programs. These centers offer a welcoming environment, trained staff, and modern technologies necessary to interact with users, both physically and virtually.
